The WFC aims to raise and spend more than $5 million in third party advertising in the upcoming Ontario election - an unprecedented third party intervention - all in the support of the current McGuinty Government. |
The funders of WFC have directly received many millions in taxpayer funding from the McGuinty Government and its key staff members are senior Ontario Liberals and favoured suppliers to the Liberal Party of Ontario. |
The Toronto Star reports that 88% of WFC funding comes from Building Trades Council affiliated construction unions. Yet, on the WFC website, no mention is made of construction issues in this election. What is the payoff for these unions? Why are they not talking about it? Is there any chance this is good for the people of Ontario? |

- Contribute millions of dollars to the Dalton McGuinty's re-election without being subject to Ontario's Election Finance Laws. Many WFC funders will donate the maximum allowable by law - the WFC allows them to keep on giving.
- Do Dalton McGuinty's dirty work for him by launching attack ads on the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario campaign. Yet because these attacks are not done directly by the Ontario Liberal Party they allow the Liberals to say they are running a "clean" campaign.
- Ensure the Ontario Liberal's get reelected so that they can continue on the gravy train of Ontario taxpayer's money. For instance, Working Families Coalition chair Gary O'Neill is also president of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 793. The union donated more than $66,000 to the Liberals between 2003 and 2006. Two months ago, the province gave Local 793 a $1.98 million grant for its training centre. Do you think Local 793 will get more money if McGuinty is re-elected?
- Ensure the Liberals get re-elected so that legislation and regulations favouring construction trade unions are enacted, such as happened last term when they removed the right of construction workers to a secret ballot vote in certification proceedings. What has McGuinty promised them this time?
